Success Stories: IIT Madras – The best engineering college in India!

The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras tops the Ministry of Human Resource’s national ranking in the engineering field. With good reason, of course. Just look it up every time, and you will see that either its alumni, students or faculty have accomplished something that gets the institution the recognition it deserves. The latest news is that MS scholar Jaimini Bhattacharya won the ‘best paper award’ at the Doctoral Colliquium of ISDSI Annual conference while Prof Sujith was chosen for the JC Bose Fellowship. And then, there are other scholars who have won for their short presentations, best posters, and oral discourses, while one student has won the second position in the ClimateLaunchpad Global Competition.

Admissions are now open for M.S/Ph.D for the July-Nov 2019 programme. Candidates with B.E / B.Tech / B.S (4 year) can apply to pursue Direct Admission to M.S.+Ph.D in Engineering/Sciences after their bachelor’s degree. Meritorious M.S scholars are eligible to upgrade to the Ph.D. programme in the same department and will receive two degrees (M.S.+Ph.D.) on completion of the programme. Applications are invited at any time from eligible candidates for admission to Ph.D. and M.S. (by Research) programmes under regular/part-time/external schemes of IIT Madras. Half-Time Research Assistantship (HTRA) funded by MHRD and fellowships from other funding agencies like CSIR, UGC, DST, ICMR, ICAR, and AICTE, among others are available for deserving candidates. Shortlisted aspirants will be called for a test and interview or just an interview by the selection committee. You also get opportunities to carry out joint Ph.D research between IITM and reputed foreign universities.

The best part of studying at IITM is that the 70 days in every semester are balanced with co-curricular activities and special lectures on specific topics. In addition, students get to be part of conferences, symposiums and workshops organised by the faculty and attended by scholars around the world. What’s more, the institute has tie-ups with foreign universities on a range of topics, giving you the global experience you seek on projects and assignments. The institute interacts with the engineering industry through consultancy services offered by it.

The institute fees is about Rs 1 lakh while the hostel fee for the 2018 batch of B.Tech, dual degree and MA students was Rs 25930 (without scholarship) and Rs 12750 (with scholarship). For the M.Tech, M.Sc, MBA, M.S and Ph.D scholars, the hostel fees was Rs 21280. For those who don’t get a scholarship, the institute helps them in securing bank loans. Click HERE for more details.
